Occupational Therapy
About us
Collaborative school-based occupational therapy support for children, families and schools across the Northern Rivers region.
Willow Tree Occupational Therapy was created with the belief that children thrive when support is practical, collaborative and connected to their everyday environments.
Our approach focuses on supporting regulation, participation, independence and confidence through meaningful occupational therapy support embedded within school and daily life experiences.
We believe strong outcomes happen when families, schools and therapists work together to support the child as a whole.

Who We Are
Willow Tree Occupational Therapy is a paediatric occupational therapy service supporting children and families across Casino and the Northern Rivers region.
We provide collaborative occupational therapy support within the environments where children learn, participate and grow — including schools, homes and community settings.
Our work is centred around helping children build the skills needed for participation in everyday life, including emotional regulation, classroom engagement, independence, executive functioning, fine motor development and confidence within daily routines.
We are passionate about creating support that feels practical, connected and meaningful for children, families and educators.

Our Philosophy
Support is most effective when it is collaborative, child-centred and focused on participation within the child's natural environments. We believe that occupational therapy should not just be about discrete skill development, but about enhancing the child's ability to engage meaningfully in their everyday school and community life. Our philosophy is rooted in evidence-based practice and a deep respect for each child's unique strengths and learning journey.
The Willow Tree Collaborative Participation Framework
Our approach is guided by four core pillars that shape the way we support children, families and schools.

Regulation
Supporting children to understand and manage their unique sensory and emotional needs so they feel safe, calm and ready to learn within the school environment.

Participation
Focusing on the child’s engagement in everyday occupations — including classroom learning, playground socialising and self-care routines.

Collaboration
Partnering with families and educators to create shared goals and integrated strategies that extend support across multiple environments.

Independence
Empowering children and their support networks with practical tools to foster confidence and functional independence in every stage of development.
Why We Believe School-Based Support Matters
We believe therapy is most meaningful when it happens in the child’s real-life environment. For many children, school is where challenges with regulation, attention, handwriting, social participation and independence are most visible. By providing occupational therapy support within the school setting, we can observe the child’s needs in context and work alongside teachers to create practical strategies that support participation throughout the day.

Research & Evidence-Based Practice
We are committed to providing support that is grounded in current research and evidence-based practice within the field of occupational therapy.
School-Based Occupational Therapy
Research highlights that occupational therapy is most effective when provided within the child's natural learning environment. School-based support allows for immediate implementation of strategies, supporting classroom engagement and participation in real-time.
Collaborative Practice
Collaborative consultation models, involving therapists, teachers and families working together, lead to significantly improved student outcomes compared to isolated therapy approaches.
Participation-Focused Intervention
Moving beyond skill-drills, participation-focused therapy targets the child's ability to engage with their peers and learning tasks, fostering confidence and functional independence in the classroom.
Evidence-based practice is an ongoing process of integrating the best available research, clinical expertise and the unique values and needs of each child and family.
